Seven capabilities, five stages, one chain.
CoAcademic organises assessment assurance around the Learning Evidence Chain. One capability exists today as an Illustrative Prototype; the rest are founding-pilot scope or planned product. This page says which is which.
01Review
Evidence-Linked Review
Illustrative prototype
This is the part of the system you can interact with today: one criterion at a time, with the evidence in view. The interface below uses sample data only — no student work, no production processing.
Use of evidence
Criterion C2 · weight 30% · confidence high4 / 5
“The committee transcript from March 1962 records three separate objections to the proposal, which complicates the standard reading that the reform passed without internal resistance.”
Band 4 language requires primary sources used to complicate an existing reading. The transcript is cited and interpreted, but two later claims rest on summary rather than sourced material.
Awaiting your decision. Nothing is released automatically.
02Lifecycle
The five stages, stage by stage
01Design
Design is where resilience is won or lost. The Assessment Resilience Audit reads an existing assignment for exposure, the Evidence Plan states which process artifacts and explanations are required, and the AI Use Protocol declares whether AI use is restricted, limited, disclosed, or required. This is service-assisted pilot work, not a shipped module.
CapabilitiesAssessment Resilience Audit
Founding pilot scopeA structured read of an existing assignment: where its evidence is exposed, which outcomes rest on a single artifact, and what the rubric actually rewards.
Evidence Plan
Founding pilot scopeThe Learning Evidence Plan for one assignment — which process artifacts, explanations, and contextual work are required, and how each links to an intended outcome.
AI Use Protocol
Founding pilot scopeA written AI-use rule for the task — restricted, limited, disclosed, or required — with the disclosure students are expected to provide.
02Calibrate
Before marking begins, prior graded examples and anchor work set what each band actually means in this course. Where several markers are involved, calibration is what makes their judgments comparable — and disagreement is surfaced rather than averaged away.
CapabilitiesRubric Calibration
Founding pilot scopeBand meaning agreed with faculty using prior graded examples and anchor work, so criteria are interpreted consistently across markers.
03Review
The reviewing surface is where CoAcademic is furthest along. A proposed judgment is never shown alone: it arrives with the excerpt it rests on, the calibrated rubric language, a written rationale, and an honest statement of uncertainty. A targeted micro-defense can sit alongside it, with accessible alternatives.
CapabilitiesEvidence-Linked Review
Illustrative prototypeEach proposed criterion judgment shown with the excerpt behind it, the rubric language it was measured against, a written rationale, and stated uncertainty.
Micro-Defense
Planned productA short, targeted explanation or oral defense of specific choices in the work, with accessible alternatives. Workload-heavy and used selectively.
04Decide
Decision is a separate act from proposal. Faculty approve, revise, or reject each criterion, and results stay in draft until a named educator releases them. There is no state in which the system finalises a grade — so decision is a faculty act inside the review surface rather than a module of its own.
CapabilitiesNo capability module. Decision is a faculty act recorded inside Evidence-Linked Review and preserved in the Assurance Record.
05Assure
Assurance is the record: the outcome, the requirement, the AI-use rule, the required evidence, the artifact, the explanation, the rubric version and calibration, and every faculty decision — held together so an outcome claim can be inspected rather than trusted.
CapabilitiesAssurance Record
Founding pilot scopeThe end record: outcome, requirement, AI-use rule, required evidence, artifact, explanation, rubric version and calibration, and every faculty decision.
03Output
How the work becomes an Assurance Record
Founding pilot scope
The Assurance Record is not a separate reporting exercise. It is what remains when the Learning Evidence Chain has been followed for one assignment.
- 01
Design decisions are written down
The intended outcome, the assignment requirement, the permitted AI use, and the required process evidence are stated before students begin.
- 02
Calibration is captured
The rubric version and the anchor work that fixed band meaning are recorded with the people who agreed them.
- 03
Judgments stay linked to evidence
Each criterion reading keeps its excerpt, rationale, and any student explanation attached.
- 04
Faculty decisions are preserved
Approvals, revisions, and rejections are recorded per criterion, with release remaining an explicit faculty action.
04Truth matrix
What each label means
Every capability claim on this site inherits one of four statuses, defined here and nowhere else.
- Illustrative prototype
- A sample interface only. Demo data, no student work, and no production processing.
- Founding pilot scope
- Intended service-assisted pilot work, delivered alongside a course team. Subject to readiness, institutional data and security review, and written pilot terms.
- Planned product
- A researched direction that is not built.
- Not offered
- Explicitly excluded. CoAcademic does not provide it and does not imply it.
- Autonomous final grading
- Automatic release of results to students
- AI, plagiarism, or authorship detection
- LMS synchronization
- Unverified production processing
- Accreditation approval or automated accreditation reporting
- Accuracy, agreement, or time-savings figures
- Security or compliance certifications
- Named customers, testimonials, or usage claims
- Sign-in, pricing, checkout, or connected lead capture
The Founding Assessment Assurance Pilot
One course team, one assignment, one confirmed rubric — audited, calibrated, reviewed against evidence, and decided by faculty. Enrolment is not open; the page explains the intended scope and what a pilot would require from both sides.
